Supreme WashingtonText Box: On our last days with the Herth’s we headed downtown for a Civic’s field trip like no other. We went to the Supreme Court! It was awesome! We went on a tour of the actual court room. However, while many of you are thinking it is the ‘highest court in the US,’ it actually is not. Because, on our tour we learned that directly ABOVE the Supreme Courtroom, there is a full sized basketball court. See? I bet you didn’t know that!! We met Jennifer there in the afternoon, so before that we got to see a really great show at the National Gallery about Pompeii. The show was incredible. There were lots of amazing artifacts from Roman Villas.
Text Box: We had time to briefly walk around the museum. The kids really liked Calder, and they had a special room set up to view a private collection.
Text Box: On the way there, Nina and Audrey scared up the sea gulls. Nina decided that wasn’t such a good idea! Then, it was time to hook up with Jennifer and her crew.
Text Box: Cade really liked this sculpture out front of the museum, but then it was time to walk to the Supreme Court.
Text Box: Inside the supreme court are huge relief sculptures like the one below. We were surprised to learn they were over 7 feet tall!
Text Box: What are they looking at??
Text Box: Cade says “Tell it to the Judge!” On the left you see our tour crew in front of a replica of the Justices on the bench.
Text Box: Afterwards, we walked next door to the Library of Congress.
Text Box: The Library of Congress was absolutely beautiful!! The architecture was incredible. However, if you go there expecting to see books...well, you will be disappointed. You can get a library card, but you have to do it well ahead of time, clearly, because we didn’t see very many people in there! However, the building itself was worth the trip.
Text Box: Stuck like glue to sweet Liza, Cade is in heaven at the LoC
Text Box: It was amazing to think these items were buried for so long.
