On Saturday, we met the Herth family down in St Mary’s, GA. It is a small fishing village famous for the point of travel to Cumberland Island, formerly a frolic place of the rich and famous Carnegie family. The town was super small, but super cute, and the kids had fun playing near the water on the town square, then we all had a great lunch with a great view, shopped, went to a museum and ended the day at the Oak Grove Cemetery. It was a great day! |

Only homeschool kids would run to a museum. Who knew oysters were the shellfish of my two states! |

So, aside from the Carnegie connection, St Mary is also famous as the unofficial “last” battle of the war of 1812. The museum guide told us, even thought the official last battle was New Orleans, in reality, no one told the locals the war was over, so, on the ’day after’ the war ’ended’ the British troops attacked St Mary’s! That made this, the last unofficial battle of 1812. Caden loved spending time with his crush...Liza. And, to finish the day we went to the Oak Grove Cemetery. It was established in 1788, and had stones from that era, all the way until today. The beautiful setting was only more pronounced with the beautiful live oaks and sunset! |
