Medieval TimesText Box: Last week the kids finished up Medieval Times class and because it had been raining for nearly two weeks, the festival had to get moved indoors to the local library. The kids didn’t seem to mind, and Melyssa seemed to be able to adjust, even making a ‘jousting’ ring (below) and setting up tables for the kids to play chess, checkers and 9 Men’s Morris. Some kids even came dressed in Medieval garb! The kids had also assembled a trebuchet that was used to shoot erasers. Similar to a catapult, a trebuchet uses a counter weight to launch the ammunition—in this case erasers! The kids did a great job displaying their various creations, from castles to shields there was a lot learned in this class—and fun too!
Text Box: As the kids jousted and played games we could walk around and see their work. Above, they used calculator tape to make a modern version of the Bayeux Tapestry.
Text Box: The kids made posters to advertise their weapon shops. Spencer’s was hysterical saying things like “Vikings get free horns for helmets” while Audrey’s was clearly more ‘artistic’ in nature. Finally, the shields were laid out on a table for everyone to see. These came out really well too. They learned a lot, and they had a great time too!
