Text Box: Equine RescueText Box: Today I took the kids to Eagle Hill Equine Rescue to learn about horses, rescue, and see what all is involved in having horses. Now, they all want horses. No shock there. The lady who gave the tour, Ms. Annie was really great with the kids. And her farm and horses were fabulous. They too were great with all the kids! Malena has always been a horse girl, so this tour was like a dream come true!
Text Box: We learned a lot of interesting facts, like did you know a horse’s optimum barn temperature is 52 degrees? Ms Annie has 109 horses at her facility, and seeks good homes for all her stock. She told us that horses choose you, you don’t choose them. The horse above chose me. To the left, this one chose Audrey...but the one below was too beautiful, and even though he wasn’t interested in any of us, we decided we’d name him Crescent for his beautiful moon shaped star on his head.
Text Box: Many of her horses were Painted or Appaloosa's, but she also had some Mustangs. In addition, there were many, many cats, and also three dogs. Before heading to the pasture we got to sit down in the warmth of her home (it was 32 here today) and she told us all about what is involved in running a rescue. These horses eat FIVE TONS of grain a WEEK! She is a non-profit organization, but still has a lot of people who help her out. We think if we ever get a horse, it will definitely be from her, these horses were all really great!
