This week the ducklings saw big changes...they are starting to get their feathers—well, some of them are, and once they start coming in, they come in quickly. They also have discovered their favorite food is watermelon. Very comical to watch! Lil’ Rounds is still substantially smaller than the others, but considering her situation gets along remarkably well. We have started separating her out a little since we are pretty sure she will become more of a pet than a real duck. She doesn’t seem to mind either audience so much. Another funny thing that happened this week is they have learned the morning routine. First I take them to the pond for a swim and a drink. Then we do ‘walkie round the garden’ and I just walk around the yard and let them forage. It was all good until today I decided to walk in the front yard, so they thought we were heading for the stream and took off running down the driveway! It took a lot for me and Audrey to convince them it was time to return to their pen for the morning! We’ll see what tomorrow morning brings! |
