The Good Dog: This is a book about dog who was just a regular dog, but became a leader of a pack of wild dogs. Audrey has just started this book, so we can’t comment on its star power yet.

Dripping Fang 1,2,3,4,5:  This is also a series of books Spencer has been reading.  They are quick reads, with a combination of funny and ‘scary’ situations.

A Pizza the Size of the Sun:  Jack Prelutsky This is a series of silly poems in a similar style to Shel Silverstein. (Another of Spencer’s favorites)

Spencer gives this book 5/5 stars

Biscuit: Malena loves Biscuit books.  Right now, they are her favorite because she can read them herself!

Malena gives Biscuit books 5/5 stars

Family Reads:

Caddie Woodlawn: Caddie is a real tomboy, living during the pioneer times.  We are really enjoying her adventures!  I find it to be a little more interesting than the ‘Little House’ series.  It is good to read a book that isn’t so sad!  *Bridge to Terabithia” was extremely sad.

The kids give this a 4.5/5 stars

Foxy’s Tale: a true story of an Alaskan Champion Sled dog.  We read this to prepare for the Iditarod.   After the book we emailed the author, Ed White.  We hope to meet him this weekend!  See our meeting!

The kids gave this a 5+/5 stars

Sarah, Plain and Talla classic story (Newberry) about a mail order bride who moves from Maine to the Prairie.

The kids give this book 5/5 stars

Bridge to Terabithia: a (Newberry) story about an unlikely friendship between two kids who form an imaginary land called Terabithia.  Soon to be a movie.

So far, the kids give this book 4.5/5 stars

Until the end...then it dropped to a 3/5 stars bc it is very sad

Hoot:  This was a great story about how kids can make a difference.  It is about some burrowing owls kids work to save from destruction when a pancake house threatens their habitat.

The kids give this a 5/5 stars

The Adventures of Edward Tulane:  This was a fantastic full circle book about how our upbringing influences our opinions of people...but sometimes, those opinions are wrong.

The kids give this book (shocking) a 5/5 stars.

The Howliday Inn:  This was the latest in the Bunnicula series we finished the summer out and started this school year with.  Perhaps not quite as funny as Bunnicula, it was still a great read.
