Few people can come into the world with a soundtrack.  Yet, Malena did.  She was named after a soundtrack which received ‘Best Musical Score’ during the 2001 Oscars.  There I was laying on a couch in Austria watching our satellite tv coverage of the Oscars when the score for the Italian film Malena was played.  Then, the name floated across the screen, written just as it is above.  Without lifting my head I hollered up to Matt—3 floors up—I know what we are naming the baby if it is a girl.  He took some convincing, but after the Spencer ‘incident’ he decided it was best just to let me name the baby.

The first 14 days of Malena’s life were spent in an Austrian hospital.  She is the only child born overseas in a foreign hospital...and anyone who asks will know it was the best 14 days of my life!

When we returned to America, she grew and she drew.  There were playgrounds to build, museums to visit (Eric Carle) and soon it was time to move!

A new house and a new brother both arrived in the fall.

Round out Malena’s world

And this year, Malena entered the world of home school as a kindergartener.
