While we were in Florida the Herth’s took us to Jacksonville ZooMy National Zoo membership came in handy because we got into this zoo for free!  What an awesome zoo it was!!  Lots of vegetation, tons of animals up close and personal, but the highlight was all the different animals you could feed!  That was our highlight~!  Although, not everyone shared in our enthusiasm!

Jacksonville Zoo!Oval: Not many zoos get to have captive national symbols. This zoo does. The pair was injured and cannot fly. They have no cage around them.

You could even feed the giraffes!  Unfortunately, when we were there the giraffes just weren’t interested in eating.  Below this was the funniest monkey we saw all day.  There were lots of monkey’s there, but this one was too cute.  Do you think he likes being in the zoo?

Cloud Callout: Let me out.
No, really.
Oval Callout: Get me outta here!
Cloud Callout: Wasn’t there a horror movie about birds?
Oval Callout: Arg! I’m a pirate!

The Jacksonville Zoo also is home to the Amur Leopard.  There are less than 40 of these cats left in the wild.  They will be extinct in the next few years.  It is amazing to see such a beautiful creature and know it is on the brink of extinction.  This is one prime example of the benefit of zoo’s around the world making it possible for us to see these nearly extinct creatures.  Sadly, they will never again roam in the wild once the few left are gone.
