This is Audrey Ramsey reporting from the Ramsey’s pond in Gainesville, VA.  Things are quiet here as the frogs of summer slumber under the water.

I look forward to spring and exploring, especially around our pond.  During the summer, I also love to go back in the woods behind our house to the creek and look at the frogs.  Most of them are leopard frogs, but we have found some bullfrogs.  I have named that place Frog Creek and it has inspired me to make a website (www.ramseycentral.com/frogcreek).  They are all unique and very special to me.   I also name them, one of the names is Greenstar, (he is a green frog) because on the back of its eyes it has one little light green star.  My exploration has led to education, and I have learned how to tell if they are males or females.  One way to tell with a bullfrog is the males have ears that are bigger than their eyes, if they are smaller, they are female.

I have learned a lot about frogs, but there is still a lot for me to learn.  Exploring has given me a love for frogs, as well as all of the other wildlife in my backyard.  From the ants to the owls, my own yard gives me things to find throughout the whole year.
