Text Box: Today we had a patriotic day! We went to Washington D C to see a kids play at Kennedy Center called “Chasing George Washington”. It was a story of the history of the White House told by three kids on a field trip who accidentally knock George Washington from the famous painting. There were several things we learned about the White House from the play.
Text Box: First, the famous painting of George Washington:
Did you know?

The painting was painted by Gilbert Stuart. It holds a lot of symbolic meaning, and biographical. On this great site you can explore more about the painting itself.

The position of Washington is a sign of hospitality.

In the portrait the things that surround Washington are representative of his life.
Text Box: What we learned about the White House:

This very painting was hand carried out by Dolley Madison when the British burnt down the White House.

When Harry S Truman was having work done on the White House a piano leg came through the ceiling! It’s true!

President Ford’s daughter held her prom in the White House.

There is a swimming pool at the White House, there used to be an indoor pool, but now it is where the Press room is located!
Text Box: After the play we went to Arlington National Cemetery. We headed for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and just happened to hit a wreath laying ceremony for the Canadian Navy. Here are some highlights from our day.
Text Box: Overall, I think these photos speak for themselves. This being such a famous landmark I think the pictures tell their own stories. However, in the future, if you’re surfing the web, and you find a baby asleep on the steps of the Tomb of the Unknowns, that would be my little cutie pie...Cade. He slept in a sea of legs on two marble slabs soundly for a good hour. He only stirred when the band played—and that was only for a moment.
