On the Journey North website, they are keeping track of sunrises and sunsets around the country.  This is helping to explain how your Longitude and Latitude influence your sunrise and sets.  I decided it would be fun to follow sunrises and sets with some friends of ours who moved away.  One is in Minnesota, and the other in Florida.  This is where we are keeping track of the data, and we will post what conclusions we’ve come to.

Here is a nice thought/question sheet from Journey North

Since we are following the Iditarod this year again, we have added Anchorage to our watch list (Good idea Maureen)

Anchorage:  February 8th, 2008  sunrise 9:04am  sunset 5:22pm

Anchorage:  February 15th, 2008  sunrise 8:45am  sunset 5:42pm

Our question of the week is, why is JAX sunrise later than Washington D.C.?

Jacksonville’s sunrise is later than Washington DC because if you look at a map, believe it or not, Jacksonville is quite a bit farther west than DC is!

Look at the sunrise times.

What is the difference between the times and the zones?

Which zones are increasing faster?

Why do you think that is??
