Text Box: After washing out the Petri dishes well, we mixed a solution of gelatin and sugar in boiling water. We then poured the medium into the dishes. We took samples from Spencer’s CLEAN toes, Mom’s sneeze (I had a horrible head cold) and Audrey and Harbour’s mouth. Then, we stored them in a dark place so they could grow. The sneeze took off, but Audrey’s mouth and Spencer’s toes were slow on the uptake. But, of all things, Harbour’s mouth was the big shocker.

Mom’s Sneeze—Gross!

Spencer’s Toe Jam

Audrey’s mouth

Harbour’s mouth

Harbour’s                                                             Audrey’s

Text Box: Spencer’s toe jam was a surprise because he had just taken a shower, and knew he was doing this so he scrubbed his feet. While the sneeze is truly gross, and clearly a good representation of why you should cover your mouth, these two were the big surprise here! Audrey’s mouth sample grew a nice yellowy brown fuzz, and Harbour’s—virtually nothing, one little speck of brown. Which has led me to want to kiss the dog more than Audrey!! Although, clearly this test didn’t account for breath!
