On this beautiful blue sky day, we decided to take advantage of our trip to Alexandria to see Gadsby’s Tavern, and walked around Old Town. The kids have rarely been there, and they had never been to the Torpedo Factory. I told them this would be like a walk down memory lane...to which, my darling daughter replied “When did you live her Mommy” (her eyes full of admiration, not picturing me so cosmopolitan) I reply “In 1990” In a slightly shrieked voice she replies “That was like EIGHTEEN YEARS AGO.” So, I made her sit outside Ben and Jerry’s while her siblings and I enjoyed a nice ice cream. Just kidding. Sort of, it really was 18 years ago, which doesn’t seem THAT long ago to me—until you consider they haven’t even been on the planet that long. Know it all little homeschoolers. I may put them on the bus Monday. |

The first thing the kids noticed was “The Ramsay House”—yes, I know it isn’t spelled like us, but my kids quickly dismissed it as a typo. Above, you see them entering the house...to use the lieu. |

Here the kids are at Ben and Jerry’s enjoying an ice cream cone, to hold them over until the big memory lane finish—then, we headed to the Torpedo Factory! |
|
Once an actual torpedo factory, the building was converted into artists studios, where artist work, and sell their wares. It is a very cool place to experience a lot of different types of art in a small space. I love how Malena is looking at the torpedo below—like she’s going to buy it!! After strolling through the galleries, the kids seeing many different kinds of art, we found out we could get a Time Travelers stamp here. Aren’t you impressed Beth and Maureen? Then, we found out we could actually get TWO! Upstairs, is the Alexandria Archaeology Museum! Who knew! And, it was tiny, we were the only ones in there, and they were VERY kid friendly. Below you see the kids putting together dishes they didn’t even break! The lonely lady explained all about how they go about digging up artifacts. It was very cool! |

Cade absolutely LOVED playing with the broken dishes! They had a spear head in the museum that was 13,000 years old. REALLY! The funny thing is? It was found in a spot where they had put a gas station! |

Once we walked back to the car, we headed down Duke street for the most nostalgic point I could think of—a trip to Generous George’s Positive Pizza Place!! There is just no place like it. The pizza is great, the décor hideously quirky, and the kids LOVED it! They especially liked getting their own ‘pitcher’ of coke! Shockingly, we didn’t have to stop forty times on the way home! So, WAY BACK IN THE DAY...about, oh, 18 years ago, my man and I used to frequent this place. In all those years, I believe at least 80% of the time I get seated at THIS same table...completely by happenstance. And, for EIGHTEEN LONG YEARS I have looked at THIS same painting with its rusted out brass frame. It is just awful, and I am sorry if you love it, or worse, if you actually are the artist who painted it...but, if you are, I hope you can see how much you have improved...or, you’ve moved on to another career. However, somehow, if I went to GGPPP and that painting wasn’t there...well, I might just turn around and leave. That is, of course, if the pizza wasn’t so freakin’ good! |

If you squint you can actually see the Capital! |
